Here are a few of my favorite shots through the years:

Beth as a baby - taken using a film SLR camera

Beth & the hubs in our little apartment, there were some window that occasionally let in some pretty light.

This is from when we lived in Montana - we had a nice window that got good light in the morning.

Baby Emma, this was from when we were living with my parents. The light in our bedroom was just beautiful.

A favorite photo of our not-yet-two year old Beth

Here is Emma, we were living in a little duplex when I took this photo. We had one nice window for taking photos. This is one of my favorite photos from when we lived there.

When we moved to our little house out in the country it was dark and generally not ideal for taking photos. My favorite place for taking photos was by the door - whenever it was open I could get some beautiful light.

Another photo of Beth from that house. She was playing dress-up!

Katie-Abigail, crawling out the door!!

Here is Emma - my cutie-pie! We moved to a house with brighter light but I still liked to shoot by the door. I could get some cute shots of my kids pretty blue eyes there.

Here is a shot of Beth, taken near the door.

Baby Josiah - taken near a window on my bed.

Katie-Abigail has the most beautiful eyes! This is the first shot so far that's taken with an SLR taken right by the door.

Another favorite place to photograph was by my bathroom window.

Here's a shot of Emma taken near a window.

Here is a photo of Beth taken at our current home in the dining room. There is a nice bank of windows there that is almost always great for taking photos!

Josiah - also taken in the Dining Room - great window light there!

A photo of Beth taken from late summer by the door. There is often some pretty light there!
No matter where you live there is bound to be a spot or two with beautiful light! Once you learn to take advantage of it your photography will improve tremendously!

Great tips Faith - it's pretty simple, find a door or window. Love that!
Love the time frame.. I felt like I was growing them. You have captured them well. Thank you for the hint.. now if I can just get my daughter by the window...lol
beautiful pictures :) your kiddos are adorable!
Wow! Such great photos and such beautiful children! Great post!! :)
i love my sun-room the light there is great TY for the post.
I guess if you do it right it really makes the eyes pop!
Great post! You're kids are so sweet :) I loved the edited glitter shot too! I'm lucky in our new place we have great big sliding glass doors across the back of the house that let in some fantastic light (I just need to move all the kids toys and mess out the way if I want to take any photos, lol)
You have such beautiful kids!
What beautiful children you have!! It was wonderful to get to see them growing up like that :)
these are all beautiful shots! I need to work on this. I tend to get too frustrated and do most of my shooting outside, but would love to improve my indoor photography. Can't wait for class!
Cute children...awesome shots!
love these...I've been working on natural light ones as well!! CAN NOT wait until we can have the windows and doors open!!! Spring may never get here BUT Summer will!!
Wonderful capture through out the years! I really need to make sure to keep my indoor shots natural after editing.
Great advice, thanks for posting.
Your children are beautiful! They have the most gorgeous eyes!! Love the dress in that very first picture!
I know we were supposed to be looking at the lighting, but I was distracted by seeing your kids when they were little(er)! I have had to use indoor light almost exclusively with Aiden since starting my 365, and it does take practice and planning! Thanks for sharing these examples!
If you ever have time, can you do a tutorial on taking photos in direct sun, like at a playground at noon, how half their faces can be well lit and half can be in shadow? Or maybe they're partially shaded by a tree? The lit side is over so exposed and the dark side is always so dark. I have a hard time with partial shade with kids because they're always moving in and out of the sun so quickly, it's hard to change my settings! I'd appreciate it (one day) :)
thank you for the tips and I have to say that you really have an eye for photography and you can see it in your work even with a point and shoot. nice work.
